unweb.org is the home of Unweb, a tiny browser where every visit is a first visit.

Your everyday browser is full of you. Cookies from hundreds of sites, logins, stored data, cached files, months of history. Every site you open gets some of that, and shapes what it shows you to fit. You never see the page a newcomer sees.

Unweb opens strangers. A stranger starts with nothing at all, and when you close it, everything it collected is deleted from your computer. You can open several side by side in one window, each with a store of its own, and type one address for all of them. Give one a different language, or send it through a proxy you have so its traffic comes from somewhere else, and compare what each one gets.

unweb.org would like to hear from:

Anyone trying Unweb out. What a stranger showed you that your everyday browser didn’t, and what was hard to follow.

Anyone who found a bug. Something that carried over from one stranger to another, a file left behind after closing, a proxy that was skipped, or a crash.

People who compare sites for work, such as SEO and ad checks, who would like Unweb to do more for them.

Write to info@unweb.org.

Unweb takes a minute to set up. Download the installer for your system, install it, and open it. A window opens with one stranger in it.

Open a Site

Type an address in the bar at the top and press Enter.
example.com
opens
https://example.com/
. Unweb only opens web addresses; words you type aren’t sent to a search engine.

Everything Unweb does, and what it can’t do. For a first look, the quick start is shorter.

Windows and Strangers

A window has the bar at the top and one to four strangers below it: one, two or three in a row, four as two by two. Each stranger is a strip and a page, with a store of its own.

On Windows and Linux a stranger’s store is a folder of its own, which the engine uses for cookies, storage, its cache, service workers and everything else a site can leave. On macOS each stranger gets its own WKWebView data store that keeps nothing on disk. No two strangers share anything, whether they are side by side or in separate windows.
